What is Klima Kids?

Klima, the Greek word for climate and the namesake of the campaign, provides us the opportunity to innovatively educate young students about climate change.

The idea is simple, young students are willing and capable of learning about climate change and making a difference in whatever way they can. The goal of Klima Kids is to make climate change education and action items easily accessible, fun, and educational for all young students to enjoy.

The future is theirs, so why should we not include young students in the conversations surrounding climate change in our community?

Why did it start?

Klima Kids was created by a group of students from differing disciplines for the Climate Change Collaboration Project at Florida State University. Students from Theater, Environmental Sciences, Digital Media Production, Social Media and Marketing, and Oceanography joined forces to create 10 multifaceted and unique projects related to climate change in Florida. Klima Kids was one of those 10 projects.

How does it work?

This campaign aims to bring climate change education and action items to grade school students through two phases:

  1. Website + Podcast + Printable Coloring Sheets: The telling of stories through the perspective of endangered species via podcasts that could be listened to in classrooms, as bedtime stories, for homework, or car rides.

  2. Coloring CampaignA coloring campaign that will make accompanying coloring menus that could be pitched to local or regional restaurants featuring the characters and information from the podcasts.

Mission

We hope to create a space for young students to feel empowered and knowledgable of the tools they have to tackle climate change problems in our homes, communities, and state. â€‹â€‹

Vision

We want to create a space for not just Klima Kids, but Klima Families. A space for learning and encouraging each other to do more for our planet, because the future is now.
